BUTUAN City – A man who worked in the security group of a small-scale miner was gunned down while he was on his motorcycle with his wife and two grandchildren on the highway in Rosario town in Agusan del Sur, on Tuesday afternoon.
Initial investigation by the Rosario police station identified the slain man as Noli Damin Plaza, 62, of Purok-1, Barangay Poblacion in Rosario town.
One of his relatives said the victim was on his way home after he and his wife fetched their two grandsons at the Rosario Central Elementary School.
“The murderers were cold-hearted,” said the relative who spoke on condition of anonymity for security reasons.
The two children and Plaza’s wife were not seriously hurt even after the motorcycle went out of control and slammed on a pile of pre-fabricated concrete culverts along the side of the road.
The wife of the victim Linda, 62, was brought to a rural health unit and then moved to the DO Plaza Memorial Hospital in Prosperidad, Agusan del Sur.
Police said there were two assailants on another motorcycle. The victim was shot to the back of his neck and he died on the spot.
The shooting was the second in the area in less than two weeks. In May 26, a woman was shot dead on the highway by men on a motorcycle.
