SOME 200 senior citizens from barangays Tambobong and Balacanas in Villanueva, Misamis Oriental recently availed of free eye check-up and reading glasses courtesy of FDC Misamis Power Corporation’s (FDC Misa-mis) newly-launched program dubbed as “Mata Nin-yo, Tagdon Namo” (MNTN).

MNTN, explained Analiza Miso, the power firm’s community relations specialist, is specifically designed for the seniors in their host localities.

“It’s good to note that FDC Misamis approved this kind of program to let every senior citizen in our host communities not just to feel our presence but likewise to cast hope of seeing things clearer even in their dusky moments,” Miso said.

FDC Misamis, a wholly-owned subsidiary of FDC Utilities, Inc. (FDUI), the utilities and power arm of the Gotianun-led Filinvest Development Corporation (FDC) conglomerate, operates a 3×135-MW circulating fluidized bed coal thermal plant within the PHIVIDEC Industrial Estate in barangays Tabombong and Balacanas in Villanueva town.

Miso also admitted that it’s not easy for them to conceptualize this kind of program, considering that their target beneficiaries are in their twilight mode. “But giving them a chance to have clearer vision is quite satisfying on our part.”

“What a great surprise to us having our eyes checked for free with corresponding reading glasses,” reacted by Emilio Abi-Abi, 63, one of the MNTN beneficiaries.

This former carpenter and native of Brgy. Balacanas also confided that, for the very first time in his entire life, he will be wearing eyeglasses.

Meanwhile, FDC Misamis President and CEO Juan Eugenio L. Roxas said FDC Misamis wants to institutionalize MNTN in its host communities.” (pr)
