SOME 271 Philippine Military Academy cadets from Baguio City arrived in the city yesterday for a goodwill visit as part of their “Southern Cruise Tour.”

The cadets, who are members of PMA Class 2020, would be doing the rounds here and Misamis Oriental until Friday.

They arrived on board the Navy transport ship BRP Tarlac 60 that docked at the pier in Macabalan at around 6:30 am.

Lt. Tere Ingente, spokesperson of the 4th Infantry Division, said the cadets had just finished their tour of Zamboanga and Davao cities.

Upon their arrival, the cadets proceeded to Camp Evangelista where their paid a courtesy call on 4th ID commander Maj. Gen. Ronald Villanueva.

They then staged a “silent drill” at the Pelaez Sports Center in the afternoon.

Today, the cadets would proceed to Camp Alagar, and then to city hall to meet with Mayor Oscar Moreno.

On Thursday, they would be planting trees.

They would leave for Bacolod on Friday on board the same vessel for their Visayas tour.

Ingente said of the 271 cadets, 18 come from Region 10 — six from Cagayan de Oro, four from Misamis Oriental, two from Lanao del Norte, four from Iligan City, two from Bukidnon.

Lt. Col. Raynaldo Balido, PMA spokesman, said the cadets would need to choose which military branch they would join once they reach their fourth year in the PMA. He said the cadets would be the country’s future generals. (nitz arancon)
