ILIGAN City – Thirty-two (32) trainees completed a Farmers’ Field School season-long training on Sustainable Vegetable Production conducted under the auspices of the Regional Training Center of the Agriculture Training Institute (ATI) at Cruzalluma Farm in Matoog, Kiwalan, this City on October 21. Grace Magsayo, Facilitator of Cruzalluma Farm, one of the learning sites accredited by ATI said that the training was granted to them after her completion of a season long training on the same course at Veranda in Malaybalay City.

Upon her return from Malaybalay she immediately organized a training program composed of 9 members of the Indigenous People of barangay Kiwalan, 8 members of the Social Action Center of the Diocese of Iligan, 4 MSU-Main Campus (Marawi) Agribusiness Management Students on On-the-Job Training, 6 MSU-IIT students of the College of Education on Summer Jobs and 5 dependents of farmers at Cruzalluma Farm.

Materials needed by the trainees such as seeds and other inputs were provided by ATI, she said.

Magsayo related that the trainees planted Beans, Eggplants, Sweet Pepper, Tomatoes and Ampalaya at two plots each.

One of the plots for each kind of vegetable was nourished with basal application of 14-14-14 (Complete Inorganic Fertilizer) while the other with Chicken Dung (Organic Fertilizer), she said.

At the end of the season made up of 16 Saturdays, the trainees were harvested their produce and were able to compare the organic and inorganic plant nutrition management, she concluded.

On graduation day Dr. Angelito Quirog, Superintendent of Region 10 Regional Training Center, Agriculture Training Institute (ATI) in El Salvador City (Misamis Oriental) awarded certificates of completion to Luciana Cayran, Josephine Tingcang, Juniely Denosta, Florenda Denosta,

Caridad Capangpangan, Caring Ello, Helen Silango, Marites Babasol and Floren Hinaut of the Indigenous People of Kiwalan; Vicente Tabacon, Jr., Lucreno Tagaytay, Edwin Saja, Josephine Agwanta, Leonor Daroy,

Heide Yanez, Naome Ugmad and Jocelyn Lebumficel of the Social Action Center of the Dioces of Iligan; May Joy Pracoso, Quin Edton Rendon, Rey Andojayan and Hanisha Sultan of MSU Main Campus (Marawi); Arcel

Gomera, Mariel Lasmarias, Sarah Jane Otano, Princess Tingcang, Nina Mae Genon and Kathleen Carillo of MSU-IIT; and Hilardo Royo, Jr., Junamae Royo, Lilibeth Mejos, Joan Rubin and Janice Gutib all dependents of farmers at Cruzalluma Farm.

Quirog encouraged the graduates to apply their knowledge and skills in their lives and become successful and rich vegetable farmers in the future.

He committed full support from ATI to the technical needs of the farmers in their respective farms in the future.

He also promised free seeds for one season but told the graduates to provide their own seeds for their subsequent crops.
