CAGAYAN DE ORO CITY — There is a significant decline of insurgency capabilities in Caraga Region and parts of Region 10 (Bukidnon, Misamis Oriental and Camiguin) from 1st Quarter to 2nd Quarter of 2015.
Thus said MGen Oscat T Lactao, 4th Infantry Division (4ID) commanding general during a press conference held at Camp Evangelista, Patag, Cagayan de Oro, earlier this week.
“For the past six months we have increased our operational tempo having a total of 113 Major Operations and 18,059 Small Unit Operation that led to 116 armed engagements which resulted to 24 NPA killed and apprehended,” said Lactao.
Lactao also said that the surrender of a total of 161 NPA regulars including militia and supporters have also bolstered their claim of dwindling presence of Maoist insurgennts in his area of responsibility. A total of 212 assorted high-powered and low-powered firearms were recovered and surrendered.
Relative to this is the significant decrease of NPA Initiated Violent Incidents in two regions (Northern Mindanao and Caraga) from 40 in 1st Quarter it reduced to 23 in 2nd Quarter.
With the active collaboration with the police in the area, the division has filed 30 criminal cases against identified NPA leaders and members, and 29 cases are still in the works.
Significant to this was the arrest of Bonifacio Platil a.k.a. Ka Thaddeus, the 2nd Deputy Secretary of SRC Westland under North Eastern Mindanao Regional Committee. He was arrested by virtue of warrant of arrest because of multiple murder and attempted murder cases. PIA 10
