FIVE members of the New People’s Army have surrendered to Lt. Col. Ronald Illana, commanding officer of the 8th Infantry Battalion in Barangay Poblacion, Impasug-ong town in  Bukidnon last Thursday.

The five rebels who surrendered were identified as alias Lucas, 49, a resident of Loreto, Agusan del Sur; alias GM, 22; alias Pigong, 18;  alias Boy, 25; and alias Cobra, 24.

Rebels GM, Pigong, Boy, and Cobra are residents of Cabanglasan town in Bukidnon.

Lucas surrendered his caliber 30 M1 Garand rifle, GM, Pigong, and Boy surrendered their caliber 22 rifles, while Cobra yielded his 9mm submachine gun.

According to the rebels, they surrendered because of the hardships they have endured encamped in the mountains.

For his part, Illana said the rebels will be entered into government’s program for reintegration to the community.

“Community support program opened the door for our misguided brothers to return to the mainstream,”  Illana said.
