SOME 900 out of school youths and high school graduates will benefit the barangay-based scholarship program initiated by the Philippine Councilor’s League – Cagayan de Oro Chapter and Technical Education Skills and Development Authority (Tesda) this summer.

This was disclosed by PCL-Cagayan de Oro President and City Councilor George Goking after they were given go-signal by Tesda provincial director Leo Velez in assiting them in the retrieval of the Barangay Skills Needs Survey Forms and orientation to at least 21 urban and rural barangays in the city.

Among the barangays that were given the tasked in selecting scholars were Barangays Patag, Pagatpat, Carmen, Balulang, Bulua, Bonbon, Iponan, Lumbia, and Canitoan in the first district.

In the second district were Barangays Agusan, Puerto, Bugo, Tablon, Lapa-san, Gusa, Macasandig, Balubal, Nazareth, Consola-cion, Indahag, and Cama-man-an.

Among the Tesda courses being introduced were Housekeeping NCII, Food and Beverages Services NCII, Automotive Serving NC I and NCII, Cookery NCII, Barista NCII, Bartending NCII, Pipefitting NCII and SMAW NCII (Welding).

The implementation of the program were also coordinated with the Association of Misamis Oriental Technical Vocational Education and Training, a technical school association.

Goking said the program that they had initiated was also given go signal by Tesda Secretary Guiling Mamondiong after they sent a request for assistance in implementing scholarship program in the city level.

He said through Tesda Deputy Director Atty. Diosdado Padilla the requested programis in line with the Tesda Reform and Development Agenda, the Tendering System is now being adopted in the awarding of scholarship grants under the Training for Work Scholarship Program (TWSP).

“ I also coordinated various industry, hotels and other business establishment to accept those successful scholars,” said Goking.
