CAMP Alagar over the weekend said it has sent an augmentation force to Ozamiz City in an effort to thwart off a plan by a group sympathetic to the Parojinogs to carry out retaliatory attacks there.

Supt. Lemuel Gonda, police spokesman for northern Mindanao, said the augmentation force was deployed to Ozamiz by police regional director Chief Supt. Timoteo Pacleb because of the threat of attacks following the bloody raids that resulted in the killing of Ozamiz Mayor Reynaldo Parojinog Sr. and 14 others, including his wife Susan.

Gonda did not say exactly how many police officers were fielded to Ozamiz but he revealed that they were well-trained under the Regional Public Safety Company.

He confirmed that there are reports that a group is planning on launching attacks apparently to avenge the Parojinog killings.

The augmentation force has been working closely with the Ozamiz city police force under Chief Insp. Jovie Espenido.

“After sa raid sa balay ni Mayor Parojinog,  nakadawat ta ug intelligence reports nga  dunay grupo sa mga tawo nga nagplano nga mo-attack sa Ozamiz City. Mao nang agig atong  preventive measure, nag-deploy ta og additional force sa maong syudad for security reasons,” Gonda said.

He also said the police still considers members of the Parojinog-led Kuratong Baleleng Gang a threat to the Ozamiz’s peace and order although the group has already been disbanded.

Camp Alagar did not rule out the possibility of the group to reorganizing.

“Hino-on ang ubang membro sa Kuratong Baleleng, patay na. Ang uban na-priso na, pero na-a pa man poy ilang ubang mga kauban, nga buhi pa ug  wala pa madakpan. Ma-o nang wala ta magkompiyansa,” Gonda said.

Gonda said it may take some time for the police to stabilize the situation in Ozamiz. The situation there, he said, remained unstable.

“Mintras nga init pa ang  peace and order situation sa Ozamiz City  , magpabilin lang sa  ang atong  deployment  sa atong additional police forces didto,” Gonda said.

Meanwhile, at least eight barangay chairpersons, a city councilor and a resident of Ozamiz surrendered 43 firearms to the Ozamiz police in the aftermath of the bloody raids last week, Chief Insp. Joven Espinido said on Friday.

Camp Alagar released a list of those who surrendered firearms. They are barangay chairpersons Rolando Velayo, Saulo Salvador, Shiela Marie Agonoy, Juanito Saquin Jr., Peter Dumon; Delfin Ignacio, Albina Potutan, and Danilo Tubil, Councilor Robert  Cantago, and Pio Caño.

The firearms are now under the custody of Ozamiz police.

Over local radio, Espinido said police were expecting more firearms to be surrendered in the next few days.

Chief Supt. Pacleb said many Ozamiznons were cooperating with the police. He encouraged those with useful information to report illegal activities to the police.

Pacleb said Camp Alagar would continue its efforts to eradicate all forms of illegal activities in Ozamiz and elsewhere in the region. He said the police would reinvigorate its anti-crime campaign in the region.
