BUTUAN City––Mayor Ferdinand Amante Jr. has alleged that he and at least two councilors were “bullied” by a businessman, and warned that if they sought reelection, they would be exposed.

Amante told his supporters that he was warned that cases would be filed against him if he pursued his reelection bid.

“They want me not to run, and that if I will run, they will expose me. Who are they to dictate me not to run?  This is pure and simple bullying,”    Amante said.

The mayor did not say what cases the businessman planned to file against him, or what the businessman threatened to expose him for.

He said the incident happened in a Philippine Airlines plane bound from Manila to this city.

Amante’s younger brother Sammy, a councilor, said he and Councilor Ryan Anthony Culima were harassed by the same businessman in Sept. 23, and that they had the incident recorded in a police blotter because they planned to press charges.

“His first focus was Councilor Culima who just ignored the angry businessman. And so I stood up and when our eyes met, he pointed at me, and started saying things. He was angry,” he said.
