Medina police commander Senior Insp. Arnold Sala identified the couple as Orlando Pabular, 52, and wife Anita, 47.

Sala said the suspects barged into the house of the victims in Barangay San Roque at around 1 am and peppered the couple with bullets.

Aside from bullet wounds, the victims also suffered hack wounds all over.

“Buot ipasabot nga human sila gipamusil gipang tigbas pa gyud sila,” Sala said.

Initial investigation shows that there were at least four persons who barged into the house.

Sala said the couple’s 16-year old son was able to escape the gun attack by jumping through the window.

He said the suspects spared the life of the couple’s six-year-old grandchild who was inside the house when the incident happened.

Neighbors told investigators that they  heard gunbursts coming from the victim’s house but added that they stayed in their houses for fear of getting hit by stray bullets.

Police recovered 14 spent cartridge cases for 9mm and .45 caliber pistols at the crime scene.

Sala said they were looking into two possible motives for the twin murders, a land dispute or vengeance.

He said authorities learned that one of the victims’ sons is now in jail for murder in Barangay Eureka in Talisayan, Misamis Oriental.
