BUTUAN City– A joint police and military checkpoint arrested three suspects and confiscated firearms and illegal drugs paraphernalia after an operative saw in plain view a caliber .45 pistol in an open sling bag of one of the suspects, past midnight on Tuesday, at a lakeside municipality of a northern province here in the region, police reports said.

Reports reaching the regional police headquarters here on Wednesday said that the joint police-military checkpoint established by the Alegria Municipal Police Station and the 30th Infantry Battalion, Philippine Army at Brgy. Quano, Alegria town in Surigao del Norte, flagged down a public utility van (JCG 890) 12:20 a.m. on Tuesday. The van was accordingly traveling from Agusan del Norte heading towards Surigao City.

As the driver Angelito Abad turned on the passenger light, an officer manning the checkpoint lighted with flashlight the inner portion of the van and saw in plain view a Caliber .45 pistol from the open sling bag allegedly owned by Gabby B. Pingal.

The operatives further search resulted in the confiscation of the following: a black Caliber .45 Pistol Glock 21C Austria, Serial No. CVX 556, two magazines loaded with 16 live ammunition; a black and white Caliber .45 Pistol Colt with 2 magazines loaded with 30 live ammunition; a caliber 9mm Ingram MII, bearing Serial No. 27035 with a long magazine loaded with 16 live ammunition; two unit cellular phones (white Samsung and a black and brown Samsung Galaxy); five cellular phone chargers; two head sets; a power bank; 67 pieces of used aluminum foils; an unused aluminum foil; a weighing scale; assorted personal clothing; four backpacks; four sling bags and a brown wallet containing P650.

The suspects and confiscated items were brought to Alegria Municipal Police Station for documentation.
Appropriate charges were will be filed in court against the suspects. pna
