Police have yet to release the results of an official bodycount but a source at the crime scene told the Gold Star Daily he counted at least nine people who were instantly killed in the powerful explosion.

Many were also rushed to a hospital following the explosion at around 5:30 pm near the main entrance of the state-owned Central Mindanao University (CMU) in Maramag town.

The bomb reportedly exploded at the back of Rural Transit Mindanao Inc.’s Bus no. 2640. It was classified as an “ordinary” bus––meaning, non-airconditioned.

The bus reportedly came from Wao, Lanao del Sur.

Sources said many of the passengers came from Wao which has just concluded a feast day.

Insp. Jeselle Longakit, spokesperson of the Bukidnon police, said investigators were still examining the crime scene at presstime.

As of 6:19 pm, neither the regional police office nor the 4th Infantry Division could give details.

It was the second bombing of a bus in Maramag town since November. Last month’s bus explosion was blamed on a terrorist group that allegedly planted a crude bomb made of a 60mm mortar shell with a tigger device in the RTMI bus. It was bound from TacurongCity to Cagayan de Oro.
