MINDANAO would likely not be directly hit by a tropical storm that is expected to enter Philippine territory today.

The Philippine Atmospheric Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (Pagasa) said storm “Butchoy” is forecast to move Northwest at 7 kph towards Southern Luzon and Visayas away from Mindanao.

The tropical storm is expected to be at 1,655 km east of Infanta, Quezon, this morning; to be at 935 km east of Aparri, Cagayan tomorrow; 255 km northeast of Itbayat, Batanes on Thursday; and at 450 km north northwest of Itbayat, Batanes by Friday.

Although not affected directly by “Butchoy” could still affect some parts of Mindanao.

Pag-asa forecast cloudy skies with light to moderate rains and thunderstorms will be experienced over Davao and Caraga.

The rest of Mindanao is expected to have partly cloudy to cloudy skies with isolated rainshowers or thunderstorms. Light to moderate winds coming from the west to southwest with slight to moderate seas.

In an advisory yesterday morning, the center of the tropical storm was estimated based on all available data at 1,855 km east of Visayas (12.4N, 141.7E) with maximum sustained winds of 75 kph near the center and gustiness of up to 90 kph.  It is forecast to move northwest at 30 kph.
