AUTHORITIES yesterday arrested a woman for causing a bomb scare via text messages.
SPO2 Benjie Tondaya of the Criminal Investigation and Detection Group, identified the suspect as Hera Mabaylan, 25, of Sitio Balongis, Barangay Balulang, this city.
Mabaylan was handcuffed near her house by a member of the Army’s intelligence unit who went undercover.
Tondaya said Mabaylan was identified as the mobile phone user who spread text messages about a supposed bomb threat here.
He said many people panicked, prompting the intelligence community here to track down the source of the hoax.
Seized from the suspect were two mobile phones and two SIM cards.
Tondaya said Mabaylan confessed to spreading the hoax but said she was just asked by a female friend whose brother was arrested in connection with Isulan bombing.
She said it was her friend who composed the text message and then forwarded it to her.
Mabaylan, who has been detained, would be charged with violation of a law on the malicious dissemination of false information or the willful making of any threat concerning bombs, explosives or any similar device or means of distruction and imposing penalties.
