MISAMIS Oriental Gov. Yevgeny Vincente Emano yesterday revealed that he has started brokering talks between Barangay 33 chairman Conrad Lim and the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) in an effort to end the dispute over a property in Lapasan that is in the way of a coastal road project.

Emano said Lim was scheduled to meet with officials of the DPWH and  the Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR) yesterday afternoon in the hope of reaching a settlement.

During a luncheon at the Cagayan de Oro Press Club, Emano said he was optimistic that Lim and officials would reach an agreement so that the DPWH could finish the P4-billion project started 20 years ago.

He said he stepped in after Lim went to see him at the capitol on Monday to seek his help.

“He (Lim) said he is willing to talk and give way,” said Emano. “I am optimistic that they can agree on something.”

The coastal road project is aimed at providing an additional four-lane road from barangays Gusa to Puntod, and link this to the diversion road from Bayabas, this city, to Barangay Igpit in Misamis Oriental.

Meanwhile, Emano announced that the government would soon build a new road that would link Barangay San Simon, this city, to Opol town in Misamis Oriental.

Emano said the plan is to make the new road stretch up to Iligan City.
