He also ordered all provincial jail personnel subjected to drug tests.

Emano said policies and rules in the provincial jail were being reviewed after the discovery of suspected methamphetamine hydrochloride, a weighing scale, and drug paraphernalia inside the prison.

Authorities also seized improvised knives, mobile phones, and phone chargers.

Emano said one of three jail guards confessed to being a “courier.” The suspect was ordered dismissed from the service.

“The jail guards reportedly saw the illegal drug activities right before their eyes, but did nothing to prevent it,” Emano said.

He said that he would not hesitate to dismiss jail guards found remiss of their duties and responsibilities. Emano said he detests illegal drugs, and he has been in the forefront in the fight against illegal drugs since he was elected governor in 2013.

Emano said the capitol has dismissed several provincial employees who tested positive for drug use during random examinations.

“The policy against illegal drugs would continue as long as I am the governor,” Emano said. (pna)
