GINGOOG City — Misamis Oriental Gov. Yevgeny Vincente Emano and Gingoog Mayor Marie Guingona have finalized a political alliance in this city.

The political alliance, made at the ABC Hall here on Thursday, applies only to Gingoog.

Emano, who is seeking reelection, and Guingona, who is running for vice mayor, pledged to support each other during the meeting with their supporters.

During the meeting, Emano and Guingona raised each other’s hands along with provincial board members Wayne Militante and President Elipe.

Officials said the Emano-Guingona alliance only applies to Gingoog, pointing out that the governor has also forged an alliance with another group in eastern towns of Misamis Oriental, except in Magsaysay where town of Mayor Rey Buhisan has been openly supporting the gubernatorial bid of ex-vice governor Julio Uy and his running mate, provincial board member Jeremy Pelaez.

Emano’s party workers in Gingoog have been given instructions to support the Guingonas, vice versa.

Incidentally, Mayor Guingona and 1st District Rep. Peter Unabia, father of Emano’s congressional bet Christian, are rivals in Gingoog’s vice gubernatorial race. Guingona’s mother Ruthie is running for mayor against Unabia’s mayoral candidate Erick Cañosa.

John Venice Ladaga, city hall spokesman, quoted Guingona as saying that he hoped that the political alliance would grow stronger until election day.

Councilor Marlon Kho said despite the Emano-Guingona, the Cañosa-Unabia group would continue to support Emano’s reelection bid and the campaign of Elipe, the governor’s brother-in-law and running mate.

Kho said the Cañosa-Unabia group would also support provincial board members Virgilia Dumadag, Vincent Pelaez, and Erick Khu.
