Bangsa M’ranao group airs apology for lapse

ILIGAN City — A group of Bangsa M’ranao leaders sent a public apology for understanding and reconciliation after holding a presscon which Bangsa M’ranao Congress Chairman Sultan sa Lanao Dr. Firdausi Abbas declared unauthorized.

Abbas also said copies of the resolutions distributed to media during the said presscon were fakes.

Abdani Alonto, representing the group sent an open letter to this paper.

“Salam to all! [sic] One of the noble objectives of the Bangsa M’ranao Congress is to serve as a venue to all M’ranaws to voice out their sentiments, grievances and requests to agencies or groups, both public and private rather than to join radical group,” the letter reads in part.

Alonto said the congress is their peaceful approach to resolve problems and address problems M’ranaos are facing in light of the siege of Marawi City.

“I will strongly recommend to the members of the Bangsa M’ranao Congress that each approved resolution shall be discussed thoroughly through conference meetings by the congress representatives and the concerned offices for possible solutions before seeking the opinion of the court,” Alonto’s letter continues.

Alonto also assured the public that they will adopt proper procedures in all of their congress activities to avoid misunderstanding.

It may be recalled that after the press conference mentioned by Alonto, Dr. Firdausi Abbas told this paper that he withdraws – not resign – as chairman of the Bangsa M’ranao Congress.

Alonto told this paper they will talk with Abbas as soon as the latter comes back to Iligan from Manila. (Frank E. Dosdos, Jr.)
