Iligan City — The barangay chair of a hinterland village has expressed his ‘discomfort’ over the presence of soldiers in their barangay.

Rady Pogoy, chair of Barangay Rogongon said the other officials have been complaining also since they “do not have privacy anymore when doing their official functions.”

It was learned that Special Forces from Manila have been staying in bunkhouses inside the barangay hall to pursue the government’s campaign against loose firearms.

Rogongon, to note, is a hinterland barangay northeast of this city. Its boundaries include Cagayan de Oro City and Misamis Oriental. The city can be accessed too from hinterland routes from other provinces through this barangay.

The Army’s 51st Infantry Brigade could not be reached so they could not say whether these special forces are within their area of responsibility or not.

It was also learned that there were reports of “harassment” by the Special Forces particularly in the Sitios of Malandog and Dalamboan but the soldiers could not be reached regarding the matter.
