RESIDENTS of Baungon town in Bukidnon have sent a letter to President Duterte appealing for intervention and immediate action on their long-time problem of access to potable water.
In a two-page letter, lawyer Ernie Palanan, acting as the residents’ spokesman, asked the President to direct the Department of Public Works and Highways in Region 10 to repair the roads in Baungon.
Palanan, the Commission on Election-Caraga officer-in-charge, claimed in the letter that since 2010, the start Baungon Mayor Pedro Alvarez’s term, the people of barangays San Vicente, Salimbalan, Imbatug (Poblacion), and Liboran, all of Baungon, started to have difficulties accessing potable water.
“To date, the suffering has worsened because of the heartlessness of our local officials to address the very basic need for potable water,” he said.
Palanan said the irony is that the Alvarez family have made use of the water resources of Baungon for their family business, the Rio Verde Water Consortium Inc..
Rio Verde has been the lone bulk water supplier of the Cagayan de Oro Water District since a decade ago. COWD recently made an agreement with another bulk water supplier.
“Mas maayo gyud nga adunay motan-aw sa among kalisod nga nasinati-an dinhi sa among lungsod,” he said.
