An Official of the Cagayan de Oro Chamber of Commerce and Industry (Oro Chamber) has appealed to the members of the city council not to relieve Cagayan de Oro City Police Office (Cocpo) City Police Director Senior Supt. Ronnie Francis Cariaga and other members of the local police force.

Oro Chamber president Jeffrey Ang said the move for the replacement of all members of the Cagayan de Oro City Police Office (Cocpo) including Cariaga as the top leader of the local police force is unfair and unreasonable.

Ang importante is nadakpan kini silang lima ka polis. Pero kung wala madakop, dili na peaceful alang sa atong siyudad. Ang importante nga gi-aksyunan og wala sila mag-biased,” he said.

He said that there should be a serious collaboration between the police and the National Bureau of Investigation (NBI 10) to solve the Oct. 23 abduction of former overseas worker Enrique “Eking” Fernandez III in Upper Carmen.

However, Ang admitted that local businessmen have been worrying especially with coming Christmas season.

Dili maayo nga pulihan tanan because ang makapuli is walay kasayuran sa siyudad. They will be back to zero in peace and order management. We need those persons who are very familiar with the city events and places,” he said.

Ang said the entire business club acknowledges the leadership of Cariaga who offers safety seminar to businessmen in the city.

“We still acknowledge the leadership and management (skills) of Cariaga. Ipadayon lang ang iyang term nga kinsa tong nakasala ipadakop gyud. We will give him a chance to prove that (and) he should stay as city police director,” he said.

He said it is too early for Cariaga’s replacement since Cocpo received awards from President Rodrigo Duterte’s latest visit in the city.

On Monday, City Councilor George Goking had asked the city council to pass a resolution to asking Camp Alagar to relieve all Cocpo members, from city police director Cariaga down to the lowest ranking police officer.

Goking, chair of the city council’s trade and commerce committee, said the Fernandez case has a chilling effect on the city’s business climate.
