MAMASAPANO, Maguindanao– Public works officials in the Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao (ARMM) and in Maguindanao are optimistic the concrete foot bridge crossing the Tukanalipao River will be completed by August amid torrential rain in the region.

The concrete bridge is being built near the iconic bulletiddled wooden footbridge several meters away from site of January 25 encounter between members of the PNP Special Action Force (SAF) and Moro rebels in Mamasapano town.

The road was one of the many projects initiated by Regional Gov. Mujiv Hataman of the Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao and officials of the ARMM’s Department of Public Works and Highways following the unfortunate Mamasapano incident.

Samsudin Salendab, a corn farmer, said she was excited seeing the completion of the project because it will give them easy access in transporting corn products to the town center.

She recalled crossing the wooden bridge was very difficult, especially at night.

James Mlok, Maguindanao’s 2nd District Engineering chief, remain optimistic the multi-million footbridge and the farm-to-market road leading to the concrete bridge will be opened to the public next month.

Mlok is supervising the completion of the project which was constructed by ARMM workers and 6th Infantry Division engineers.

Aside from the foot bridge, ARMM and the military turned over a mosque constructed nearby which was timely as Muslims observe the fasting month of Ramadhan.

Mlok said the villagers of Tukanalipao, one of the poorest villages of Maguindanao, have been helping the project. pna
