A barangay chairman of one of the barangays in Valencia City, Bukidnon survived an ambushed last Thursday.

Louie John Naiz, 54, barangay chairman of Mailag was lucky enough after the gun used by a gunman failed to fire.

Valencia City Police head Supt. Richie Yandog said Naiz was driving his van-type multicab with plate number LML-782 at abot 10 am heading towards Purok 1 when one of the passenger of a motorcycling trio shot Naiz at close range.

Luckily, Yandog said, the gun did not fire.

Sensing danger, Naiz alighted from the vehicle and ran away from the area. One of the suspects’ companions even fired his gun towards the air before leaving the area. “Nagdagan palayo si Kapitan paingon sa balay ni Mario Alvarez. Gigawas lang siya pagtan-aw niya nga wala na ang gusto mupatay niya,” Yandog said.

In an interview with Naiz, he told police investigators that prior to the incident he already noticed the suspects in front of the barangay hall.
