The fire left some 298 families homeless. Wilfredo Miras, supervising fire officer here, said investigators were looking into the accounts of witnesses that two people intentionally set a house on fire with gasoline along Lopez Jaena St., this city.

The fire quickly spread in Barangay Tandang Sora here. Grace Burdeos Espere, disaster riskeduction and management officer, officials have concluded that there was reason to believe it was an arson case.

Espere and Miras said investigators have also noted that the property where the fire destroyed houses is under court litigation.

But Espere said city hall was waiting for the result of the official BFP investigation. Miras said the fire broke out at around 9:54 pm in July 16, and it took firemen until 3 am of July 17 to put it out.
