AS we approach the fiesta of Cagayan de Oro, it is good to reflect now on what the fiesta is all about. Human as we are we naturally seek to understand the things we do like a fiesta celebration. To do so makes our celebration more more meaningful.

A celebration is an act of rejoicing for whatever bllessings of creation that we have received from God. The most important gift and blessing from God is the gift of our human life. The creation of man is the greatest thing that happened to  the world that God created because God created us in his image and likeness. Whoever we may be, the most important gift and blessing from God is our birth. Under normal condition we usually remember the day of our birtht.

A fiesta is celebration that we celebrate in common for the blessings that God has bestowed on our community. In a fiesta we also celebrate the success in the work that we have done that adds something to God’s gift of creation. To some extent the work that we do makes us co-creators with God and sustains the gift of life he has given us. The best example of the first success of man in his work from time immemorial would probably would be his success in working and making use of  blessings of creation like planting and harvesting and other kinds of work that provide us with the food that help us sustain the gift of life that God has given us.

The other examples would be our success in other works that draws from the other gifts of creation such as the  caring for animals that would also become a source of food for us as well as the olther works of our hands that are meant to make life better for us such as building a house. We also build other structures that make our life better for everyone.

A fiesta celebration usually takes the form of the act of thanks giving to God and rejoicing for the gift of life and for the fruit of our our work and for the many other blessings that we receive as result of our work. It is good always to be reminded that these blessings that we thank God for first came about out of the love and generosity of God from whom all blessings come.

The act of rejoicing and thanksgiving in a fiesta celebration usually takes the form of a  religious ceremony followed by various kinds of festivities.
