At least 500 barangay chairpersons from all over Misamis Oriental gathered starting yesterday in Caga-yan de Oro for a three-day 3rd Liga ng mga Baran-gay Congress.

Association of Barangay Chairperson president and Sangguniang Panlalawigan Ex-Officio Member Leo-nardo “Lanoy” Winstan-ley said the congress is held in two batches, first on May 22-24 and another batch on May 29-31, which will also be held here in the city.

Aside from the agenda on efforts of curbing, if not, stop the use and sale of illegal drugs in the communities, “we will also discuss efforts against possible terrorism in our province.”

Governor Yevgeny Vincente Emano, who will be speaking during the first night of the stay-in congress, called for strengthened and harmonious relationship between each of the village chief executive for smoother implementation of the Provincial Government’s plans and programs for the people of Misamis Oriental.

“We believe that with the strong relationship among all our barangay captains, the people ultimately benefit (from) our efforts. We should make it to (a) point that everything we do in government should be for their benefit and not ours,” Emano said. (pio misor)
