The annual festival was started in 2013 during the first office term of Misamis Oriental Gov. Yevgeny Vincente Emano.

The Provincial Tourism Office, the festival organizer, concluded the Search for Miss Kuyamis swimsuit competition on Dec. 28, 2017, at the Sophie Red Hotel in Jasaan town where 21-year old  Judith Jot Polestico bested other candidates.

The Miss Kuyamis coronation night would be held at the capitol grounds on Thursday, Jan. 11.

Emano said the Misamis Oriental Provincial Police Office and the Provincial Disaster Risk Reduction Management Division have prepared to ensure peace and order during the week-long festivities.

He said Misamisnons would be in high spirits again “as we celebrate this very big event in our province.”

The festival will also be highlighted by the promotion and the showcasing of the beauties and wonders of Misamis Oriental and local produce under the one-town, one-product (Otop) program.

The Kuyamis Festival would begin with a mass at the Nazareno church today.

There will be a street dancing parade starting at 6 am today.

Dance competition, agri-tourism booth contest, culinary and cooking demonstrations, and sports events at the capitol grounds would also be held.

The 20 Miss Kuyamis candidates would be at the Ayala Centrio Mall tomorrow for a mini-fashion show where culture and arts, and photo exhibits would also be held from Jan. 8 to Jan. 12.

At the capitol grounds, there will be meat and livestock shows, food exposition, and the “Tiangge sa Kapitolyo”.

The Governor’s Night will be held on Friday, Jan. 12, a night before the “Night of the Lesbians, Gays, Bisexuals and Transgenders.” The first Search for Miss Gay-Misamis Oriental 2018 would be staged.

Emano has invited the public to come to the province and take part in the week-long festival, and enjoy the beauty and wonders of the province, and patronize its local products and delicacies as part of the capitol’s “Explore Misor” program. (pio)
