Executive Secretary to the City Mayor Boy Rasalan said the city government has been prohibiting the sale of firecrackers for a long time in the city following the bloody incidents during the New Year celebration.

He said he does not mind the revenue of any vendors if you sacrifice the effect of the firecrackers to the community.

Joyful celebration can be enjoyed without firecrackers explosion citing the Davao City experience which has long been prohibiting firecrackers but they can still enjoy the Yuletide season and New Year celebration, he said.

He further said that it was not written in the Bible that we cannot fully celebrate the New Year without creating disturbance among  residences, since there are many ways to celebrate it.

All vendors were fully advised through broadcast, television, and print media to prohibit the sale of firecrackers in the city, and if found selling firecrackers it will be tantamount to the cancellation of their business permits.

He added the second offense might land them in jail.
