“But these lanterns, among gitawag ug pirik-pirik gagmay kini siya, nga para sa mga estudyante sa elementary ug high school isip pagsugod sa ilang pag-display for the consumption of the public. These are durable lanterns because they are made in foil that can be displayed outside even under the rain…and they use rugby to tie the corners, nga mahimo usab i-display sa sunod na pud nga tuig. Barato ra gyud siya kay gagmay man,” said MOPJ Warden Dominador Tagarda.

The inmates are still making frames of the lanterns for those to be sold on a higher price that ranges P1,000 to P5,000 each with orders coming from different institutions such as the schools, churches, local government units, among others, Tagarda added.

Tagarda said compared to commercially-made lanterns, these lanterns made by the inmates are cheaper and with higher durability.

Last year, according to Tagarda, the inmates sold a total of around P600,000 worth of lanterns with possible profits of about 70% less the materials and labor cost.

Daku sab among pasalamat sa pipila ka relihiyosong grupo sa ilang suporta sa atong mga piniriso sa ilang pagpahulam ug capital,” the jail warden said. (pio misor)
