City council approves rehab of Cugman water system project

LOOKING into the plight of residents at Upper Carmen, the City Council during its regular session this week presided over by Councilor Zaldy Ocon approved an ordinance authorizing Mayor Oscar Moreno to enter into a sign a Memorandum of Agreement with the Cagayan de Oro Water District (COWD) and the Water Works Association for the rehabilitation of the existing deep well at Zones 9 and 6 at Ilaya, Cugman.

This, after the COWD confirmed that the project cost for the rehabilitation project in the amount of P342,528.75 shall be charged to the P6 million fund allocation of the local water district for projects identified by the city government.

The COWD has a yearly fund allocation of P6 million for water supply projects in the city.

Legislators  noted that the COWD has already evaluated the existing water supply system and came up with the needed program of works and detailed estimates for the cost of the project.

The agreement was reviewed and endorsed by the committees on public utilities and on laws and rules chaired by councilors Teodulfo Lao and Ian Mark Nacaya, respectively.

Lao said the matter should be acted upon since it involves the basic need of the residents for water. (clo)
