THE city council will soon start deliberations on Mayor Oscar Moreno’s proposed 2019 budget of  P6.5 billion.

In his budget message, Moreno said it is estimated that the total resources of city hall would reach over P6.5 billion. He asked for the approval of a P5.880-billion general fund and   another P619.459 million for the city hall’s special account on economic enterprises.

Moreno said the objectives of city hall next year would be to provide more responsive social services along education, health, adequate shelter assistance, employment opportunities, agricultural and fishery extension services.

Among others, he said, the local government would also work to provide sustainable job generation and employment opportunities by strengthening the City Jobs Placement Bureau to translate job vacancies into employment to better service job seekers, and provide capability building for the development of micro and small enterprises to uplift the economic status of individuals and groups.

In ensuring food security, he said, city hall would sustain the efforts along good                         agricultural practices, technical support on organic farming and clustering of vegetable production, among others.

Moreno said tax revenues under local sources would contribute some P3.207 billion or 49.35 percent of the proposed 2019 budget while non-tax revenues are projected at some P1.022 billion or 15.73-percent of the proposed budget.

Moreno said the city government expects external sources to reach some P1.761 billion or 27.11 percent of the proposed budget.

City hall expects an internal revenue allotment of P1.665 billion next year or 25.62 percent of the proposed budget, a projected increase of about 10.13 percent compared to that of this year’s.
