THE City Council on its regular session this week adopted a resolution congratulating and commending Carlo Dorin of Cagayan de Oro City for winning the Golden Boot during the Singapore Cup (Singa Cup): Asia’s Premier International Youth Football Tournament held in Singapore last December 2018 thus bringing honor and pride to the city.

Dorin, one of the members of the Great Oak Manor playing as the forward, was awarded the Golden Boot by virtue of the team’s winning the championship. He scored four goals in the U18 Division during the entire tournament. The Golden Boot is an award given to the player who scores the most goals in a competition or season.

Originally from Monte Carlo, Barangay 12, this city and a student of the Misamis Oriental General Comprehensive High School, Carlo started playing street football when he was eleven years old.

He was taught the finer points of the game by Higala FC Coach Weng dela Riarte for whom he played for four years eventually becoming an assistant coach.

From there, he qualified for the Philippine U14 team which played in the Asian Football Confederation Football Festival in Brunei in 2015.

He now has a scholarship from the Lyceum of the Philippines University-Cavite in General Trias, Cavite, where he is a grade 9 junior high school student.

The legislation was filed d by Councilor John Michael L. Seno, chair of the City Council committee on sports and youth development. (sp)
