Majority Floor Leader Ian Mark Nacaya told reporters the plan to buy fire trucks after the city council approved on Monday an ordinance authorizing City Mayor Oscar Moreno to sign the proposed Memorandum of Agreement with the BFP.

This covers the 20-percent share of the city from the Fire Code Revenue.

The City Treasurer’s Office and the City Legal Office endorsed the agreement after noting it to be legally sound.

“During budget deliberation last week, City Fire Marshal Rommel Villafuerte disclosed that they had already asked City Mayor Oscar Moreno to buy fire hoses and other equipment out from the released BFP share but the mayor told him personally that he wanted to purchase fire trucks when the fund would be released for the city,” he said.

Under the agreement, the BFP shall monitor the timely release of the 20-percent share in the Fire Code fees to the city and ensure compliance by the city to the reportorial requirement as mandated by law prior to the release of the succeeding funding, among others.

The city, on the other hand, shall utilize the share exclusive for the use of the operation and maintenance of its city BFP fire station, including the construction and repair of  BFP fire station.
