Cagayan de Oro City Police (Cocpo) was able to confiscate an estimated amount of P10.8 million of illegal drugs in the last six months of 2016.

City Police Director Senior Supt. Ronnie Francis Cariaga in his year-end report said the amount comprises the confiscated illegal drugs like 2,092 grams of shabu and 1,200 grams of marijuana.

“Combined market value na ang P10.8 million on illegal drugs with eight people killed on legitimate police anti-drug operation. Although highly-urbanized ang Cagayan de Oro, minimal lang gyud ang namatay on anti-drugs operation,” he said.

He said the campaign against drugs has no comparative data compared to last year because this is the main program of President Rodrigo Duterte.

“Very intensified atong kampanya and we were able to conduct 791 police operations and arrested 937 suspected illegal drug pushers, and 373 users for the whole 2016,” he said.

Records show that crime volume in 2015 reached 10,284 cases but in 2016 it dramatically decreased to 6,932 cases (32.6 % total reduction).

He said he also consider other effort by the plus factor areas in the police service like Barangay Tanods and establishments security guards who also visibly helped in anti-crime and drugs campaign.

On cases like murder, homicide, robbery, thief and rape which recorded under index crime which has 37.6 percent reduction and it only recorded to 5,426 in 2015 and in 2016 it recorded down to 3,960.

Cariaga said under the index crime, the crime of murder only slightly reduced to 56 in 2015 to 54 in 2016. Homicide – 13 in 2015 to 12 in 2016 and the case of physical injury 573 in 2015 and 504 in 2016. Robbery cases reduce considering that in 2015 it recorded 841 and in 2016 it only marks to 516 incidents and in Thief cases – 2015 marks 3,032 cases and in 2016 it only mark to 1,520 cases and rated almost 50 percent crime reduction.
