This was disclosed by Cocpo spokesperson Supt. Mardy Hortillosa, II on Monday morning during the flagaising ceremonies held at Cocpo headquarters located in Barangay 40.

Hortillosa said the proposal to cut off communication systems through a signal jammer aims to prevent terrorist bombing by remote control or cellphone signals during the fiesta activities.

Among on the top list fiesta activities that needs strict and careful security implementation is the street parade that would be held on Aug. 27 as ordered by City Police Director Chief Supt. Nelson Aganon to all his police station commanders and special units.

Ang mahitabo niini dunay pagka-balda sa communication sa atong mga kaigsonan pero atong unahon paghuna-huna ang safety sa atong mga lumolupyo apil na gyud ang tibuok dakbayan,” he said.

Hortillosa asked for some considerations when they would start switching on the signal jamming device which would likely hinder information dissemination during a big event like the Higalaay Fiesta Parade.

Cocpo and other law enforcement units have recieved intelligence report that the bombs that have killed several people and injured several others in some parts of the country were exploded by way of mobile phone detonations.

Atol ra pud sa parade nga atong paga-hinuon to cut off telecommunication lines and ban drones from flying over crowds. Mobile phone lang gyud and we are looking into hand-held radio to be included,” he added.

Hortillosa said they are still seeking further advices and more guidelines from the NTC-10.

Tan-awon nato kung gi-apil ba ang hand-held radio sa pag-detonate sa bomba og atong tan-awon kung unsa’y atong mahimo,” he added.
