THE unscheduled morning blackout that affected many areas of the city yesterday was caused by a snake.

Ralph Paguio, senior vice president of the Cagayan Electric Power and Light Co., said the blackout affected some 15 percent of the city’s power consumers.

According to Paguio, the snake crawled up and coiled on Cepalco’s 69-kilovolt line in Barangay Tablon, causing a short electrical circuit at around 5 am.

He said the anomaly caused three feeder stations to automatically trip off.

Areas affected were Balulang, Carmen, Kauswagan, Patag,  Bulua, Bayabas, Bonbon,  Iponan, Divisoria, Limketkai center, Lapasan up to Barangay Gusa.

The power supply service resumed at around  9:30 am, some four hours and 30 minutes after the coiled snake was electrocuted. (nitz arancon)
