IF we convert the money won in a lottery by an American into Philippine pesos, they would amount to more than P10 billion. With that kind of money, spending one million pesos in one day would be just a flake from one’s hair.

What’s spending one million a day really like? I can’t imagine that. Yet someone could share her experience if she really wants to. The question is that, how was she able to do that? With whose money and what were those buying sprees for?

The season for expose is near. And when it happens, let’s just sit back, relax and enjoy the show.

Soup is best if served hot. This is the reason why Rep. Rufus Rodriguez was so disappointed when the supposed homecoming of the newly crowned Miss Universe was postponed. What happened?

According to information, Rodriguez worked hard to include CDO in Pia Wurtzback’s first return to the Philippines  after she bagged the Miss Universe crown. Rogriguez’s request to the franchise holder of Binibining Pilipinas, Stella Marquez Araneta, for the Miss Universe to extend her stay was allegedly granted.

But Araneta’s husband Jorge, according to Rodriguez, said there was a request from Gean Cesar of the City Tourism Council to postpone it to April. If true, that’s quite a long wait. Mabugnaw na ang sabaw! The excitement won’t be as high anymore.

A five-man team of the City Regulatory and Complaints Board (CRCB) office raided “Pisonet” and Internet cafés operating without permits. The raids were legitimate, all right, but taking a swipe at the barangay chair Jaime Frias left a bad taste.  Frias was enraged over the remark: Your barangay chair loves to complain against Lifestyle only to give clearance to one that is not supposed to be allowed.”

Frias and the CRCB have a history of dislike and altercation due to his beef with Lifestyle District. Frias claims that CRCB has been soft on the complaints against Lifestyle, and harsh against the small ones.

“How can we expect people to believe when Lifestyle is leading the pack in violations but is being cuddled by Mayor Moreno and his cohorts,” said Frias.

Without necessarily justifying his own action, Frias said the establishment raided had already been investigated by city hall personnel without any action taken. Thus, the presumption was that, everything must be okay. Besides, “The one being investigated is far from the school and enjoys a six-month privilege to test if the business would survive or not,” said Frias.

A Baranfay 23 councilor who witnessed the raid commented that Zones 5 and 6 have been complaining for more than a year and yet, no action ever came from the CRCB against Lifestyle.

He added that, CRCB should apply the prohibitions under RA 1224 Section 275 with fairness and equality.

For me, this issue has become more political than just being legal.
