PO2 Buenaventura Reyes Jr., the police officer allegedly caught in a “drug den” in Carmen over the weekend, has bailed out and would be reporting for work anytime soon. But the two civilians arrested with him are not as lucky — they are still behind bars and facing more serious cases.

Senior Insp. Maricris Mulat, chief of the Cagayan de Oro City Police Office’s City Drug Enforcement Unit, confirmed that Reyes was released from detention after he posted a bailbond.

He was allowed to bail out because he was charged with a less serious offense — drug use and illegal possession of  drug paraphernalia — unlike the two other suspects who were accused of possessing and selling illegal drugs.

Mulat explained, “Using lang to. Timing lang nga pagdakop namo sa among target, naa siya sa balay sa target, nag-gamit.”

The other suspects identified as Julius Narvasa of Quezon, Bukidnon, and Ian Torres  of Zone 6, Barangay Carmen, were charged with non-bailable offenses.

“Basin next day, mag-report to  siya (Reyes) sa iyang unit,” said Mulat.

Reyes, a police officer assigned with the mobile unit of the Agora police station, tested positive for drug use and is also facing an administrative case that could cost him his police career.

Meanwhile, Chief Supt. Timoteo Pacleb, police director for Region 10,  warned that no officer would be able to evade criminal and administrative cases if they are caught engaging in illegal activities especially if they are found to have links to illegal drugs.

Pacleb said this even as Mulat confirmed that there were more police officers here who are in CDEU’s list of law enforcers suspected to have links to the drug trade.

Pacleb said the “internal cleansing” started by Camp Alagar would continue under his watch.

“It’s possible that we are still unaware of their illegal activities. I hope that they will not do that so that they will not form part of our  accomplishment  reports and internal cleansing,” said Pacleb, adding that erring police officers should start mending their ways.

He addressed police officers: “You have all the chance now to change your ways. Don’t be a problem to our organization.”
