Butuan City — The Butuan City Police Office (BCPO) boasts of zero crime incidence during the entire duration of festival activity of the recently concluded Balangay Festival here.

Senior Supt. Albert Magno, city director of BCPO pointed out that he is pleased with the recent success of the security measures pushed during the celebration of the Balangay Festival and the feast of Señor San Jose.

“We acknowledge and applaud our personnel for the success and accomplishement of our target in having a zero crime incidence for Butuan City during the duration of the events and activities on the feast of Señor San Jose and the Balangay Festival,” said Magno.

“The deployment of police personnel for the duration of the Balangay Festival started on May 1, but the start of the festival events and activities started on May 15 and culminated on May 19. Within that duration we recorded zero crime in the city,” said PCI Christian L Rafols ll, chief of police community relation’s branch, Public Information Office of BCPO.

Rafols added that, “around 202 BCPO personnel were deployed to various areas in the city together with 212 fresh graduates that was about to undergo Basic Internal Security Operation training. These personnel were augmented by elements of the Regional Mobile Force Battalion as well as troops from the 23rd Infantry Battalion of the Philippine Army.”

“Unfortunately, an incident happened on May 20 that sent a victim to the hospital. The data we presented was during the deployment of our personnel between May 15 to 19,” Rafols added.

Chief Supt. Noli Romana, regional director of the Caraga Police Regional Office-13 stated that the success of the security measure was proper implementation of planning for the festival celebration.

“We expected that the month-long festivities will draw influx of people from different places, local and foreign tourist, businessmen, VIPs and other visitors who attended and witness the celebration,” said Romana.

PRO13 revealed that a task force dubbed: Task Group Balangay Festival 2018 was created to facilitate set up security measures to ensure an orderly and peaceful conduct of the Annual City Fiesta in honor of Patron Saint Joseph.
