THERE’S more than meets the eye in what appeared to be a professional hit on social worker Ramon Racjec Escudero II on Lapasan highway last month.

Chief Insp. Ernesto Daing, who has been investigating the Escudero assassination, revealed to the Gold Star Daily that he received death threats, and warned against looking deeper into the murder of Escudero.

“Mao lagi, ang una ang investigator tapos ako ug ang dati nako nga chief (intelligence) pati pud mga dati nako sakop sa Station 3,” reads Daing’s text message to this paper.

Daing said the death threats only served to bolster suspicion that Escudero was waylaid in connection with his job as the external relations officer of Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) in Region 10.

Part of Escudero’s job at the DSWD 10 was shortlisting legitimate vocational and technical schools for funding by the social welfare department.

It can be recalled that still unidentified suspects ambushed Escudero, a resident of Block 10, Lot 11, Villa Trinitas, Barangay Bugo, at around 8:45 pm on Sept. 11 along Lapasan highway.

Daing also said he has been relieved from handling the case, and replaced by Senior Insp. Ariel Philip Pontillas. He did not elaborate.

As of this writing, police authorities are still gathering additional evidence on the case, and would also include the death threat they received via SMS.
