Chief Insp. Rogelio Labor of the Jasaan municipal police station, identified the slain man as Cyber Evon of Sitio Bantiles, Barangay Bugo, this city.

Labor said they rushed Evon to the Quilisabio Hospital in Jasaan after the alleged shootout where the man was declared dead on arrival by physicians.

He said they and personnel from the Misamis Oriental Drug Enforcement Unit were conducting a buy-and-bust operation near the public cemetery in upper Jasaan town at around 2:45 am.

Labor claimed that when the suspect realized that an undercover agent was buying shabu from him, an outnumbered Evon allegedly drew a caliber .38 revolver and started shooting at the police.

He said the joint police team fired back and shot Evon.

Police claimed to have recovered the revolver with five bullets that was allegedly used in the shootout. The standard caliber .38 revolver has six bullets — meaning, the revolver was only fired once.

Police also claimed to have found four sachets of suspected shabu from the dead man.

There was no mention of a marked money or a witness who could corroborate police claims that Evon was killed because he fought back.

Labor said Evon had long been in the provincial police’s drug watchlist.
