POLICE are set on pressing a string of charges against the bus driver in the road accident that killed three people and hurt 26 others in Purok 2, Barangay Patpat, Malaybalay City, on Thursday afternoon.

Senior Insp Julius Saluta of the Malaybalay City Police Station, said three cases of reckless imprudence resulting in homicide and 26 cases of reckless imprudence resulting in serious physical injuries would be before Malaybalay City Prosecutor’s Office today against Benjamin Mahirang, bus driver of Rural Transit Mindanao Inc..

Saluta said the bus company would also be included in the cases.

He urged relatives of those who died and the injured to get in touch with the police so they could build strong cases.

“Naa na sa prosecutor ang tanan nga desisyon. Kung mo-ingon ang mga namatyan sa ilang ipadayon ang kaso then it’s up to the prosecutor’s office to file the cases,” he said.

Meanwhile, the Land Transportation Franchising and Regulatory Board regional director Aminoden Guro issued a “show cause” order that requires RTMI to submit a report and explain what happened Malaybalay within 72 hours from Friday.

The order was sent to RTMI branch manager Jessie Lentorio.

This developed even as the LTFRB reportedly ordered the one-month suspension of four buses plying the Cagayan de Oro-Valencia City route as a result of the accident.
