A MAN and his wife died as a truck owned by a former mayor plunged from a bridge in Talakag, Bukidnon on Sunday.

SPO4 John Cajan of the Talakas police identified the dead as Romulo and Bebie Biroan, residents of Talakag. Romulo was driving the ill-fated truck.

Radyo Ultra reported that the blue Isuzu Elf truck, owned by former Talakag mayor Amado Noble, figured in the accident at Ugyaban Bridge shortly after 5 am.

Cajan said the Biroans were bound to Cagayan de Oro with 176 crates of chicken from Noble’s poultry farm when they met the accident.

Cajan said Romulo lost control of the truck after its brakes malfunctioned while negotiating a slope leading to the bridge. The truck hit the bridge’s railings and then plunged into the river.

Romulo was declared missing on Sunday but his body was found yesterday morning in a neighboring village in this city.

Senior Insp. Allan Corato of the Lumbia police said Cagayan de Oro police officers have started a separate investigation to help the Talakag police in determining the exact cause of the accident. –nitz arancon
