In a 24-page ruling, the 4th Division of the Sandiganbayan sentenced Ditsaan-Ramain mayor Ali Untao Adiong to six years and one month to 10 years of imprisonment. The anti-graft court also slapped Adiong with a perpetual disqualification from holding public office.

Adiong was ordered to pay Jera General Construction owner Ernesto Reculio the amount of P1,150,000 for damages.

The ruling was based on a complaint filed by Reculio.

Associate Justices Alex Quiroz, Reynaldo Cruz, and Bayani Jacinto signed the ruling this Nov. 16.

Reculio was contracted to a joint project between the Department of Energy and Lanao del Sur Rural Electrification Cooperative (Lasureco) in Barangay Pagalongan in the same town in 2014.

Employees of Reculio testified before the court that on May 13, 2014, at around 8 am, Adiong alighted from his white Fortuner and ordered his men to pour gasoline on Jera General Construction’s boom truck and set it on fire.

The construction company was using the boom truck for installing concrete electric posts along the highway in Barangay Pagalonga, Ditsaan-Ramain in Lanao del Sur.

The anti-graft court did not believe Adiong’s alibi that he presided a meeting on the day the boom truck was razed.
