Dad dies, 4 others hurt in road mishap

A father died instantly while four others were injured after a motorized trisikad he was driving figured in an accident yesterday morning.

Senior Police Officer 2 Laureto Castillo, traffic investigator assigned at Police Precinct No. 10 in Puerto, identified the lone fatality as Eliazar Alen. A native of Kitaotao, Bukidnon.

While the other victims were identified as Eliazar’s wife-Jessa, 41; his son -Junrel, 9;  his grandchild Maryjane,4; and his daughter-in-law Maribel Misa, 41.

The driver of Toyota Fortuner was identified as Roberto Undac, 49 of Zone 2, Sangkanan, Manolo Fortich, Bukidnon, is now in custody at Puerto police office.

The incident took place at Mambatangan, Manolo Fortich highway at around 4 am Tuesday.

It was learned that the victims were at a beach party in Cagayan de Oro.

The four survivors were rushed to the nearest private hospital in Puerto but later transferred to Northern Mindanao Medical Center.

Junrel’ s left hand was fractured. Jessa and Maribel sustained wounds and bruises in the different  parts of their bodies. While Maryjane only got minor bruises to her body.

Undac said, he was heading home when the incident happened. He said he was in a very moderate speed at 60kph that time.

Wala gyud nako nakita ang motorized sikad kay hinay kaayo ang iyang suga sa luyo then naa ko sa fast lane then siya naa pud diay sa maong lane,” Undac said.

Castillo said Undac’s vehicle crashed the left side portion of Alen’s motorized trisikad which caused the latter to be thrown a meter away from the collision site.

Castillo said Undac has a greater culpability since he was the one who crashed into the victim’s motorized trisikad.
