Material Recovery Facility (MRF) partnership for Barangay Carmen will soon be a reality.

Supporting the Solid Waste Management Act of 2003, the 18th City Council headed by Vice Mayor Raineir Joaquin V. Uy, confirmed the Memorandum of Agreement entered into by the city government of Cagayan de Oro, and the Material Recovery Facility  (MRF) Segregation Organic and Vermi Culture Farming Producer Cooperative and the Barangay Council of Carmen for the implementation of the MRF and Composting Facility.

As cited in the agreement, the MRF shall be designated to receive, sort, process and store compostable and recyclable materials efficiently and in an environmentally sound manner.

Under the agreement, the city shall provide the technical and other capability assistance, including the supervision of the MRF and composting facility.

It shall coordinate with all barangays and other agencies for segregation at source and the proper disposal of their respective biodegradable wastes.

For its part, the cooperative shall ensure the cleanliness of the facility and provide water receptacles for residual wastes. (sp)
