THE 18th City Council as the Committee of the Whole headed by Vice Mayor Raineir Joaquin V. Uy approved in principle the proposed budget of City Social Welfare and Development Department (CSWD) amounting to P216.1 million for year 2018.

During the third day of the budget deliberation presided over by Councilor Teodulfo Lao Jr., the Committee of the Whole thoroughly discussed the proposed budgets of City Health Department, City Public Services Office, City Social Welfare and Development Department, City Health Insurance Office, among others.

The proposed budget of CSWD includes special program, projects and services for children (P50 million), youth (P20.2 million), women/families (P17.5 million), Persons with Disability (P13.5 million), Elderly/Senior Citizens (P42.4 million), Institutional/Residential Services Support Program (P1 million), Emergency Welfare and Crisis Intervention (P34 million) and Indigenous People (P2 million).

Councilor Enrico Salcedo, chair of the City Council committee on cooperatives and former chair of the committee on social services, expressed his appreciation to the CSWD headed by Teodoro Sabuga-a for allotting financial incentives for Child Development Teachers (CDT) retirees and supervised neighborhood play (formerly Day Care Teachers).

According to Sabuga-a, a CDT retiree can now receive P5,000 with additional P1,000 per year of service.

He said the program was proposed by Salcedo during his term as chairman of the committee on social services.

The allotted budget for financial incentives for CDT is P630,000 under Early Childhood Care and Development (formerly Child Development Program). (cli)
