COUNCILOR Edna Dahino, chair of the City Council committee on women and family relations, on this week’s regular session, aired the concern of the officers of the Women and Children Protection Desk in the city.

This, after the committee conducted a focused group discussion with the said lady officers from different police precincts in the city on Jan. 29.

“I learned with deep concern that their biggest problem at present and even before is the rescue of mentally-challenged individuals, as they are vulnerable and at risk of harm,” Dahino reported.

The councilor said that while the officers cannot say no to every call for rescue, they are always at a loss every time as to where to turn them over for proper disposition.

This is due to the fact that there is no temporary shelter available and no proper protocol in place regarding the rescue but only an instruction to bring them to JR Borja General Hospital, the lady officers recounted. (sp)
