THE Partido Federal ng Pilipinas lost a standard bearer in the city following the withdrawal of former councilor Ma. Lourdes Darimbang to back out.

Darimbang withdrew her certificate of candidacy for mayor at 4:18 pm yesterday.

She withdrew even before the mayoral race could officially start without a substitution.

At presstime, Darimbang did not state her reason for withdrawing from the mid-term elections scheduled next year in the form she submitted to the Commission on Elections office in the city.

Three other candidates under Darimbang’s group also withdrew. Two are candidates for city council seats in the 1st District: Esterlina Dal and Merlyn Magsalay.

A third Partido Federal ng Pilipinas candidate for councilor, Roger Tolod, stepped aside and allowed Edgar Llagas to run for councilor in the second district via substitution.

One Rey Zarate, also from the Partido Federal ng Pilipinas, tried to file a certificate of candidacy for councilor in the second district but the Comelec rejected his papers because he submitted it at 5:15 pm or after the deadline. Zarate was supposed to substitute for Vicente Flores. The Comelec said another reason was because Flores did not formally withdraw his candidacy.
