The P22 million government center for the newly created province of Davao Occidental is just a stone-throw away from Malita town hall where the governor and some of its department shared office space with local town officials.

“(In) the meantime, this building will serve as our temporary shelter so that we could dispense well our duties and responsibilities to our constituents,” Bautista said.

In a press conference, Bautista said they are working ‘heaven and earth’ to expedite the construction of the modern and huge government center in Barangay Lais South of Malita town.

“Although not all our departments are into this new structure we are still happy to have this one as to decongest the town hall of Malita where we have been holding office since we started to exist as the 81st province of the country,” Bautista said.

Davao Occidental was created on Oct. 29, 2013 by virtue of Republic Act 10360 that has been approved through a referendum submitted to the people of the still undivided province of Davao del Sur.

Five of the fifteen local government units comprising Davao del Sur is now within the territory of Davao Occidental namely; Sta. Maria, Malita, Don Marcelino, Jose Abad Santos, and Sarangani town.
